It is amazing to think about how love can change things. Love builds up! The Scripture I read this morning is 1 Corinthians 8:1 Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. This is soooo true! I have seen love diffuse anger, I have seen love restore, I have seen love transform and I have seen love build bridges. This verse shows that love is more about others, and knowledge is more about you. We could have all the knowledge in the world, but if we don't have love we are nothing (1 Corinthians 13:2). Knowledge puffs up, this brings to my mind an image of a pillow to my mind, soft and squishy. Love builds up, this brings to my mind an image of a skyscraper, strong and tall. This picture reveals to me that knowledge is important for our individual growth, however love like the skyscraper is for thousands of people.
Even applying this to our walk with God. God does not just want us to have a knowledge of Him. He wants us to love Him. God wants a deep intimate relationship based in love, not just an intellectual relationship. It is through our love for God that we are able to love others and build up the world around you. I was able to put this into practice this morning with my husband. He came in to the bedroom to talk to me this morning and I know that one of his love languages is touch, so I just hugged him for a long time and it started our day off on the right foot. This was so much more meaningful to him than having a conversation.
