Another thing I think of when I think of family is loyalty. In the past week I have come to see this in a whole new light. God revealed to me just how deep this loyalty goes. This week a person in my life started tearing down a member of my family and the pain seared right through me. I defended my family member and it continued. In fact, I have no idea when it will stop. I do know that God has restored my heart and I have been praying for the person who tore my family member down.
My loyalty to my family member is so deep. I will always believe the best about my family. You hear it on the playground; "My dad is stronger than your dad!" or "My mom is the best mom in the whole wide world!". This loyalty, I believe only gets stronger over time. This undying loyalty is one thing that makes a family unit such a beautiful thing. No matter how far away you are, no matter how many bad things happen in your family you are always fiercely loyal to one another. It is comforting for me to know that when the whole world seems to be against me, I still have my family who has my back.
This same loyalty is expressed in God's commitment to us. He is our Father, and he is completely devoted to us. He is always loyal to us and his love never ends. Are we as loyal to God or even other Christians? Tough question. I know I have failed in that department. Yet, the church is supposed to be brothers and sisters in Christ. My challenge to you this week is to take time and show your loyalty not only to God, but to fellow Christians. How do we show loyalty; not engaging in gossip, believing the best about our fellow Christians and always being ready to defend one another. Let's try to be the family that God designed us to be, not only at home but at church too.
