Every day is a fresh start. What an amazing thought. Every day is a fresh start. If we really understood what this meant for our every day lives, I think we would be living in more freedom and be bogged down less by the weight of poor decisions from yesterday. Lamentations 3:22-23 declares "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." God has mercy on us each and every day and His mercies are new every morning.
No matter who you are and no matter what you have done, today could be a fresh start for you. The easiest way for me to explain is that everyone on the planet has messed up in some way or another, not a single one of us is perfect. Romans 3:23 states that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Not some, not most, but all. There is not a single person that has not messed up and is not in need of a second chance. This is the good news my friend, we have a second chance. God sent His only Son who was perfect to earth and to die for us so we wouldn't have to pay the penalty for all of the ways we mess up. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
It is up to us if we are going to take this second chance and run with it or if we will allow the past to overtake us and bog us down under the weight of guilt and shame. It is time for a fresh start. Time for a second chance.
