A Life Without Perfection

Romans 8:23 - For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Have you ever tried to be perfect? I know I have. In fact I have lived most of my life striving for perfection and always falling short. It is because we are all sinners, we are all flawed. Not one of us can achieve perfection. Yet it is what we strive for. We begin to feel like failures because we are unable to reach the level of perfection we expect for ourselves. This brings on the fear of failure that makes us terrified to pursue anything we may not immediately succeed at.
This circular logic causes us many problems. When we do not pursue the things that are important to us, we feel like we are failing in pursuing our dreams, our purpose, our destiny. No matter what we try to do... or not do in this instance makes us feel like we are a failure and that we will never succeed.
SINCE WHEN DOES SUCCESS EQUAL PERFECTION?
Did you get that? Let me repeat it!
SINCE WHEN DOES SUCCESS EQUAL PERFECTION?
The tribe of perfectionists out there really need to hear this! You do not have to be perfect to succeed. To succeed, you need to be you. You have been created for a specific purpose, a specific dream, a specific destiny, all you need is you. If you are not successful, then it means you may need to add more tools to your toolbelt, tweak some things here and there and try again. The only way to ensure that you do not succeed is not to try. This is how the fear of failure keeps you from ever finding success in your life and keeps you stuck.
I am a perfectionist at heart and this has been a difficult lesson to learn, doing what I have been called to do with excellence is my measure of success. This is why I am successful! Even if those of you looking in do not see it, I do! I know how far I have come and I know what level of excellence I put into everything that I do.
Focus on being you, pursuing your dreams, purpose and destiny with excellence and you will find success.
Personal Note: If you are a perfectionist as well, do not let yourself fall into the same trap I did. Realize that no one can possibly be perfect, just like Roman 8:23 says we are all sinners, we are all flawed, not one of us is perfect. We can pursue excellence and leave perfection behind!
