ALL POWERFUL

Hebrews 6:1-3 So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.
Last week I started my article with Scripture and given todays topic I thought I should do it again. In the early church (the church that existed just after Jesus' earthly ministry was complete) foundational teachings were about repentance, healing, resurrection, and eternal judgement. These concepts were normal for the early church, and somewhere along the way the North American church has let some of these concepts fade.
We say we believe that God heals the sick, but when was the last time you heard a sermon about it? We say that God can resurrect the dead, but when was the last time you prayed for someone who died to be resurrected and believed it would happen? I hate to admit it but I have seen a resurrection with my own eyes and yet I struggle with it. What has happened to us? Do we think that God has diminished in his power? Do we think God has lost his mojo?
I can guarantee that it is not God who has lost his mojo, it is us who lack the trust and faith that the early church clung to. You can be offended by this but I am sharing truth. God is the same yesterday, today and forever, so if God doesn't change then it is us who have. God can still heal the sick, God can still resurrect the dead, God can do ANYTHING!!!
Do we truly understand what that means? God can restore broken marriages, bring sight to the blind, free those who are held captive by mental illness. God can do ANYTHING!!! He can raise the dead, set free those struggling with addictions, restore our bodies to fully working order. All we need to do is believe.
The question remains...do we believe? Do we believe that God can do all of this and more, not just for someone else on another continent, but for you today? Be honest. Do you really believe? Do you believe some of these things but not all? These are difficult questions, because many of you want to answer yes, but the truth is that somehow these things are no longer taught as the starting point for our faith. Somewhere between the book of Hebrews and today this teaching has slipped in its importance to the church. John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." When did we stop believing?
Most of those reading will be saying I do believe that Jesus dies for my sins. Great! This verse says we need to believe in God, if we truly believe in God then we need to believe he is who he says he is. We need to believe that he can heal and resurrect, along with everything else. Instead we are plagued with doubt. We pray for things but we doubt God ability or desire to do them. He loves us, and he desires to heal us, God is all powerful and he is able.
Now I am not saying that those who are sick, injured or dying are lacking faith. Job is a perfect example of a situation where someone was ill and it was spiritually inflicted. I am saying that we would see more healings and more people raised from the dead if we believed. Our God is a God of the miraculous! We need to believe that and trust in him. God has not lost his mojo...he is all powerful!
I threw my back out on Monday, I have been in pain for two days. I prayed for my back but part of me was doubtful that God would heal it. This morning after reading this Scripture, I took the time to pray specifically for my back and my husband's health. I can report that my back is better. Shortly after I prayed I went to my bedroom to grab something and felt a pop in my back. Since then there has only been minimal pain when I bend or twist a certain way. I am healed.
If you have been praying for healing for a long time and have been discouraged, continue on, and continue believing! God wants good things for us, we may not understand everything that happens, but we can trust the God has it all under control.
Personal Note: If you are struggling with what I have shared today, just take some time and ask yourself if you really believe that God can do ANYTHING, that God is ALL POWERFUL. If you do then continue praying until you have a breakthrough do not give up hope. If you do not then ask God to help you to believe in him and in his power! God loves you, never forget that!
