One thing that I have learned lately is that I really have no right to be offended when someone does or says something to me that upsets me. Instead, it is best for me to give it over to God and allow Him to help me deal with my emotions. First of all, most of the time the person did not intend to hurt me with their words or actions. Secondly, even if they did intend it, Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of every single thing I do that has offended Him. What makes me think that I have more right to be offended than God? He created us and gave us life and yet it is disheartening at times to see just how many people do not appreciate all that God has done for us. I am not exempt from this, I have had times where I have not been as thankful to God as I should have been. We are all works in progress.
I have realized lately just how important it is to not let what others say and do offend me. When I have been able to give these feelings of offense over to God I find that my relationships are stronger because of it. I have found that when I would get offended, then the other person was upset, because they did not intend to hurt my feelings and then they feel like they have to walk on egg shells around me. I am sure that is not pleasant. I want people to be open and honest with me, which means in order to keep the relationships strong I bring my hurts and feelings of offense to God.
For all of you who are feeling offended by someone or something today, try giving it over to God and just relaxing in His peace, you may just find it rewarding.
