"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deuteronomy 33:27
Life can be filled with hard times, disappointments and heart break. Where do we go when these times rush into our lives? We have two choices we can either run to God or run from God. Instinctively, Christians would answer this question with a resounding "Run to God", however how many of us actually run to God as our first response?
I was at a retreat a couple of weekends ago when I was faced with this question and I looked back over my life. When I was a young girl I would run to God. I started to run away from God as I got older. I always thought that God would be angry, disappointed or just not pleased with me because I made a lot of mistakes and I was afraid of His reaction. Over the last year God has been showing me, that He is not disappointed in me, He loves me and He wants to be there for me in every way. I just need to go to Him.
When you are hurting, His everlasting arms are there to comfort you. When you are broken, His everlasting arms can put you back together again. When your heart is wounded, His everlasting arms can heal you. When you are sad, His arms will hold you as your tears flow down His shoulder. When you are lonely, His everlasting arms will hold you close to Him as He lets His amazing love wash over you. How do I know this, I have experienced it for myself.
God has always been there for me. He has never forsaken me. He has always loved me. The words eternal and everlasting speak to His unchanging nature. He has always loved us, He loved us so much that He sacrificed His son just to have this close relationship with us. Isn't that remarkable! I have even more great news, even if you were the only one who ever loved Him back, He still would have done it. This is the kind of compassionate, loving, everlasting arms that await you. All you need to do is run to Him. Let Him wipe away your tears and let Him hold you close. These comforting arms are waiting for you!
