This week God has placed on my heart this ongoing theme of "No Compromise!" and I felt it was compelling enough that I felt that I should share it with others.
In our lives we all have a set of values or beliefs we live by. When we start to compromise our beliefs we lose sight of who we are. Our identity is deeply grounded in our belief system.
I find it interesting that in North America we agree with God's rules about how we treat one another, but when it comes to rules about how to treat God, North America has lost sight of these beliefs. It is sad to see that North America has lost sight of their true identity in the midst of the compromises that have been made. I will give you an example, a single celled amoeba is considered life, even a single cell found on another planet is considered life, but an unborn child is not. What a huge compromise! The law does not condone murder unless it is an unborn child. These compromises have led to abortions being used as birth control.
One compromise can lead to the total destruction of that value in your life. If we want to stay true to who we are, we need to hold true to our values and not compromise. For Christians, our values should be what set us apart from the rest of the world, especially having God at the center of our lives. If we compromise it could not only shatter our belief system and have us doubting God, but it can also hinder our witness of God's love and power to the rest of the world.
I have struggled with compromise in my life as well. One of my values is to spend quality time with God every morning. I started to compromise by allowing other things to become more important, until I came to a point where it had been a month and I did not spend time with God in the morning. One small compromise led to that value being eliminated.
However, there is more; once you have compromised you can get the value back. I am now back to spending time with God every morning and it has brought with it a great amount of joy and peace. If you have compromised it may be time to take inventory of what values are important to you and your walk with God, then change things to make them a priority again. If you are going strong, I want to leave you with this, No Compromise! No matter how small the compromise may be, it is an extremely slippery slope.
