Romans 8:38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love.
Love is extremely powerful. Every person on the planet longs for love in their lives! When we are feeling unloved, we tend to almost shrivel inside, we become hopeless and withdraw into ourselves. When we feel loved, we feel alive, invigorated, ready to take on the world. Love is the key to our hearts, our souls, our minds.
When rejection happens in our lives, we shut down access to our hearts. We learn not to trust and withdraw. If we do not let others in then there is no chance of rejection again. TRUE, but there is no chance for love either. Every time we are tempted to cut others off from us and completely withdraw there should be a giant warning sign flashing DANGER DANGER DANGER! Instead we think we are protecting ourselves and have no idea that we are slowly building walls around our heart so high even the most avid climber would struggle to traverse it.
How then do we avoid this trap? We realize that one rejection does not mean we are unloved! We realize that one rejection does not mean that every person afterward will reject us as well. Rejection is part of life. Jesus experienced it in his life, we will too! We need to realize that we are not meant to be in community with everyone! We are meant to build community with those who want to be in community with us. Those who reject us are meant to be in community with someone else and it does not mean there is anything wrong with us, it is just the way it was meant to be.
Once we can understand this and live it, we will find that we are transformed, not living for the approval of others, but confident in who we are and who we have been created to be. We will embrace those who desire community with us and let the roots of love in this community go deep. Allowing the power of love in and through these communities to impact our world one community at a time!
God is love! He desires relationship and community with you! If you find yourself not ready to trust people because of past experiences it may be time to build a relationship with God. Love is a powerful force, bringing life to all in its path!
Personal Note: If you are struggling with being rejected and know it is holding you back from really living, know you are not alone. Confide in someone you trust and allow them to walk with you as you make strides forward. Start your journey towards community with this one person and see what happens.
