Many of us do not like change, in fact the older you get the more you dislike change in your life. You like stability and you appreciate the simplicity. Children seem to handle change much better. Personally I like change. Mind you, many people have told me I am not normal. Change can be fun and exciting, however the other side of that coin is that it can also be terrifying. Many of us fear change to the extent that we would rather be stuck in a rut than experience any change in our lives.
Even though change is inevitable, those who fear it will avoid it like the plague and those that love change will embrace it and encourage others to do so as well.
There is a piece of good news that I can share with all of you, no matter what changes we face, there in one thing that will never change. GOD. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
I have gone through a lot of changes in my life, I have moved 21 times, I have worked at 19 different jobs, I have been to 6 different schools and the list goes on. I think I started to love change because it helped me cope with the constant changes I experienced every day.
I also find that those who have not had much change in their lives are definitely more resistant to change. Fear comes in when someone has had negative experiences with change or when they have not experienced much change in their lives. For those who fear it due to previous negative experiences, just remember not all change will have a negative impact on your life. In fact I have found that many changes help me grow and build character. For those who fear it due to inexperience, if we let fear stop us every time we had not previously experienced something, we would rarely experience anything. The rut may be comfortable, but just like that bike you are not going anywhere fast.
I want to share one more verse with you. Isaiah 54:10 says, "'The mountains may move, and the hills may shake, but my kindness will never depart from you. My promise of peace will never change,' says the Lord, who has compassion on you." Isn't it comforting to know that no matter what changes we face on a day to day basis, God is unchanging and his promises remain.
