One of my favorite songs is from a long time ago by a Christian group called 4HIM. The name of this song is "The Basics Of Life". This song may be old, but the lyrics become even more relevant as each day passes.
Verse 2
The newest rage is to reason it out
Just meditate and you can overcome every doubt
After all man is a god, they say
God is no longer alive
But I still believe in the Old Rugged Cross
And I still believe there is hope for the lost
And I know the Rock of all ages will stand
Through the changes of time
Chorus
We need to get back
To the basics of life
A heart that is pure
And a love that is blind
A faith that is fervently
Grounded in Christ
The Hope that endures for all times
These are the basics,
We need to get back
To the basics of life
Humanism, the idea that we are in charge of our own destiny, is a very scary notion for me. When I look over my life and see the results of the times I have tried to do something based on my strength and my abilities, instead of relying on God, the result has never been desirable. The times when I surrender to God and allow Him to accomplish His work, the results have been amazing.
I do not know much about Scientology, however from what I have come to understand, it elevates science to be the centre of life, whereas with a Christian it would be God. So to say that Scientology is trying to replace God with science does not seem to be that far off. Personally, with carbon dating proven not to be accurate and all of the times scientists have been proven wrong, it seems that this is a very misguided way of looking at things.
Atheism, the belief that there is no God. This belief takes God out of the picture altogether. The interesting thing about Atheism is that it not only trounces on Christianity but every other religion out there. God still heals the sick, God still raises the dead, and God is still Love. So if God isn't real then why do we as human beings continually pursue love? God built us to long for Him. So we search for love. Almost every movie, book, or song has a theme of love in there. So if there was no God, what would be the purpose of pursuing love? There wouldn't be any.
Society has not only bought into this deceit, it has also pushed away anything that would stand against it. God's love is what every heart on the planet longs for. If we as Christians operated only out of God's love for people we would find that people would start to see how real God is. Once you experience the depth of God's love there is no denying it. We need a pure heart, and a love that is blind, just like Christ. He was not deterred by appearances, status, or how "good" a person was, he reached out to people no matter what because He loves them, just as He has called us to.
