Comfort

February 3, 2021

If you follow my blog, then you may have noticed my absence the last couple of days. I have been pretty under the weather. As it is I am writing this in bed, my favourite place this week.

I have had a lot of time to think while I have been trying to rest, and I have been more aware of what comforts me when I am sick and what does not. Listening to Christian music while laying in my bed brought me comfort. My husband caring for me brought me comfort. Time spent with God also brought me comfort.

Things that I found really did not make me feel better while I have been sick are: trying to get my cats to behave, watching shows, and anything requiring me to think and use my brain.

Many of you may be wondering why I am writing this article then. There are a few reasons. First, God is providing me with the strength and comfort to write this. Secondly, there are many who are sick, or lonely, or both right now and I thought if I shared about what comforts me it may just be able to help them too.

Have you ever had anyone in your life who when they spoke to you it actually soothed your soul and brought peace and clarity to your world. God does this for me, especially when I feel weak, tired and discouraged. Are any of you feeling this way? maybe it is time to allow God to bring you comfort and strength in this time.

Personal Note: If you are in need of some comfort today, consider allowing God to be there. All you need to do is ask, God is always right there waiting! If you are doing well right now, take the time to think of the people in your life and see if there is some way that you can bring someone in your life some much needed comfort. You never know when the shoe will be on the other foot.

Let me leave you with Psalm 23, I find it brings comfort to me when I need it most.

1 The Lord is my shepherd;
    I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
    he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3     He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
    bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
    for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff
    protect and comfort me.

5 You prepare a feast for me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
    My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
    all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
    forever.
