It is amazing how many times people go on vacation and think things will be just great. In just the past couple of weeks a friend of mine was on a short vacation and sure enough something went wrong. Her husband was rushed into the hospital for a heart issue. The last thing on her mind at that moment was whether or not she would have to cut her vacation short. She immediately called the airport and caught the first possible flight out. Everything ended up to be fine, however this was definitely trouble in her paradise. If we think about it, I am sure many of us can think of times in our lives when things seemed to be going well and all of a sudden trouble swept in like a hurricane in the tropics. The problem is many of us have no idea what to do when this trouble strikes and we look over the devastation left behind and have no idea what to do.

For those of you who know me, you know that I moved from Calgary to Kelowna just over a year ago. I was shocked at what happened this past summer as so much of the city was under water. I was in Calgary just a month ago and the rebuilding has already begun and for the most part you would even wonder if what you saw on the news was real. I drove through downtown and I had no indication at all that anything bad had ever happened. Sometimes we are like that with the trouble in our lives. We are quick to rebuild and get past the devastation. This is good as long as you are dealing with all of it and not just burying it. Things must be dealt with before rebuilding can be successful.

Others of us try to ignore the devastation and move on. These would be the people who just moved away never to look back. Running from troubles does not make them disappear. You will eventually have to face it.g the example of Calgary's floods. If a home owner just left, eventually they would have to come back either to sell the property, or to see what belongings could be salvaged. In the case of salvage the earlier you return the more you will be able to save, the longer you wait the more likely things could become even more damaged by mold, mildew, etc. The same is true in the problems we face on a day to day basis. If we let those problems fester they just continue to get increasingly worse. The worse it gets the more work it is when you actually do face it.

When it comes to trouble in paradise, I personally believe that facing it head on and dealing with the aftermath quickly can help us have happier lives with less stress. It is not easy and it is a lot of work, but in the end it is all worth it.
