I am almost two months in to this year and it seems that my life has had one calamity after another. Sometimes trials have a greater purpose than just getting us down. My year filled with misfortune has actually helped me discover that I had a lot of pride. I entered this year believing I could make this year great! I could! Not God and I, just I. Through the trials and difficulties this year has bought my way thus far I have realized just how much I need God. I can do nothing without God. I mean nothing! Everything I tried on my own has amounted to a lot of disappointment and frustration.
This year our church has a theme and it is encountering God. I can honestly say when I woke up on January 1st I was excited for a year filled with joy and wonder, growing closer and closer in my relationship with God. Instead I was met with storms. It has been a hard road but the wonderful gift God has given me through it, is a greater understanding of what it means to face these things together. I do not have to try, I can rely. God is my strength, He is my rock, and above all He is my helper. If you are going through your own storm, it may be time to stop trying and allow yourself to start relying on God as your helper.
